2020 SF/F Awards Eligibility Post

This is my first awards eligibility post, and I’m a bit nervous about it! Impostor syndrome is real! But I figured I would put my name out there because not doing so only hurts *checks notes* me. 2020 was a rough year to publish, and awards nominations increase visibility for books. So without further ado . . .

My qualifying work this year is Seven Devils (co-written with Laura Lam), which is about a group of women trying to take down an empire in a galaxy where loyalty is programmed from birth. It was published by DAW Books in the US and Gollancz in the UK.

A note on qualifying categories:

Seven Devils qualifies for the Hugo and Nebula novels novels novels novels novels (let me say it one more time and then clarify why in a second: NOVELS category).

It does not not not not not qualify for either the Lodestar Award or the Andre Norton Award, which are both for young adult and middle grade fiction.

Despite the confusion and labeling of Seven Devils as a young adult novel, it is not. Reflecting the ages of six of the seven titular devils (who are between the ages of 21 and 40), this book is adult.

In any case, if you participate in voting for SF/F awards and enjoyed Seven Devils, I do hope you’ll consider nominating our angry ladies in space.

Many thanks,
